Reflection on the speakers in Public History

One of the great things about Dawne's class was the speakers segments. The speakers gave us a great deal of knowledge that will benefit us as we pursue our dreams. They were able to give us a perspective on public history that is unique. Two speakers that stand out to me is the great grand niece of the Wright brothers and the Director of the Gartz museum.
I have never had a chance to meet and hear a famous person speak. Amanda Wright Lane gave a very fabulous lecture. She was sincere in how she felt as a relative to such famous figures. I was impressed by her humility  I believe that she is proud to carry the legacy of the Wright Brothers. I especially liked how she was invited by various countries to visit them during their centennial celebrations of their aviation history.
Another speaker that I really liked was the director from the Gartz museum. He spoke of the need for a PhD. I always thought that a PhD was not a good idea. I always thought that PhD would land me in a teaching profession if lucky. A PhD to me would not have any more value than this. I did not realize that people with PhDs were still in demand. I also did not realize that I could do a PhD in public history.
My general impression of the speakers were that they were very educational. I learned what to expect from a real world point of view. The common theme was that how we needed experience in the field. It makes sense in the present economy to gain as much experience as possible. I also found it important to obtain a master's of librarian science degree. A lot of the speakers had other various degrees. Also the last group of speakers stressed to acquire new technical skills. The one speaker stressed the need to know Adobe for digitization. He also stressed to know Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver is a front end tool that will help in building web sites. I am very interested to learn Dublin Core. I am very much interested to learn to use metadata.
