2012: The Textbook

The 2012 Presidential Election, Hurricane Sandy, The London Olympics  the Mayan Apocalypse and the return of Furbies. These are only a small collection of things that 2012 may or may not be remembered for. As somebody who loves to analyze how the current year is going to be viewed and looked at in years to come (example my love of looking at year in review photographs) I always want to discuss it but never get a chance. This year I finally get to with a lot of my friends as well as with you all.

Looking back to this year, there has been numerous historical events that would rate high on the historical scale of importance such as the London Olympics, Felix Baumgartner's longest free fall, whereas other stories seemed big at the time, may just fade into memory. We look at this year as if it was filled with noteworthy events that could fill an entire history textbook (Coming soon to a public school classroom near you?)  Yet how many of these events will truly last the test of time and be engraved in the textbooks and the mind of scholars in the future. My question to you all is what events if any do you think will last the test of time and what events this year will at least be a foot note when discussing 2012 in the decades to come?
