A Year in Photos, Documenting 2012

Coming from a family of photographers as well as having photojournalist for two of my best friends, I've always been fascinated and excited by the many end of year photograph compilations that come out. Two weeks ago National Geographic released their annual top photos of the year (the Photojournalist section was amazing) and this week news agencies have been releasing their year in review in photographs for people to view. The link posted is to CNN's 2012 year in photographs to view and I felt it was a collection of photos for a timeline of 2012 (up to late November). The question that comes from this is can small collection of photographs truly give justice to a full year of events? How well does this collection of photos document the year?
