Living History: Your Opinion Matters Here

So, I gave my presentation and yakked about living history for a while in front of you. But, now it’s your turn. I would like to get your opinions on living history: yea, nay, your perceptions, your concerns... or if you just want to rave about it? I’d like to hear what you think.

Oh, and here's that video, just for a little inspiration- haha.

  1. I'm a fan. I think giving people an interactive experience is just so much more engaging than displaying an object with some text next to it. It encourages people to become involved and that then makes them think so that they might choose to pick up a book or visit a traditional museum.

It wouldn't be appropriate if this was the only way people learned history but I think, it is a great starting point, especially for children and families if they have not previously had much interest in history.

If I had my way I'd pretty much spend my entire life reading medieval history books or visiting castles, but I've still loved every living history experience I've ever had.

  2. I have never really gotten into living history myself. Nothing against it, just never found the right group at the right point in my life to commit. If it gets some people interested and involved, great. I enjoy watching the products of living history, the camps and reenactments. Living history practicioners are keeping historic skills alive, for that we should all be thankful. Objects are great but we need to remember the skills and processes also.
