Objects and Memory

Since we have been talking about sense of place and have recently viewed the film Objects and Memory, I thought that I would share this site with you. It is called The Disposable Memory Project. This is an international project that involves leaving disposable cameras around the world for people to find, use and pass them on to other people. Once the camera is fully used it is returned home and the pictures and stories are shared with the world. This project first started in April 2008. It has since reached 75 countries. The project started with 410 cameras, 30 have been returned. The pictures and stories are on the site and can be viewed; information about where the photos were taken are also included.
If you happen to find a camera, there is a message on it that encourages you to use it and pass it on. You can also choose to drop your own camera to start up a project where you live to see how far it travels and the stories people will tell using the camera.
