Lincoln

This will be rehashing an old subject, but I just have to post a comment about the fantastic movie I saw last night.

Previously, I made a post talking about a prevailing trend with Hollywood films towards historical misrepresentation, though I made note of several exceptions. To that small number of exceptions I would add Lincoln, which just came out and mainly covers the month of January 1865, when Lincoln was attempting to push the 13th Amendment through Congress before his second inauguration speech in early February.
There may be a few inaccuracies as far as dialogue and the timeline go, but in general the movie seemed to be very true to historical events. Having taking a class on Lincoln and read extensively about the President, I can say that Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal was magnificent. The movie really captured the man's character and ability to grapple with multiple problems at once.
This might be more of a film review than a public history post, but I think that the film represents a public history piece, and will no doubt greatly increase public interest in the subject (at least for a few months). I would highly recommend this movie to anyone with an interest in history.
